Blue Islands statement on Gatwick slots

Posted: 20/05/2013

Blue Islands
Blue Islands will not be bidding to acquire Gatwick slots in the light of Flybe's proposed slot disposals.

The aggressive pricing policy adopted by Gatwick airport, illustrates their preference for larger aircraft, at significant cost to smaller regional carriers. If one Gatwick slot can generate passenger income from a large 300 seat, rather than a 72 seat aircraft it is in their commercial interests to do so. It is for this reason that the owners of Gatwick will continue to increase costs to airlines operating smaller aircraft disproportionally in respect of airport charges, taxes and more recent proposal of congestion charges to encourage regional airlines to find alternative airports!

Blue Islands have chosen alternatives to Gatwick as a means of offering future proof transport links. Our London City service from Jersey continues to flourish as passengers experience the many benefits of flying into the heart of London. Worldwide connections are much faster and easier through our Paris and Amsterdam hubs, with unparalleled connections worldwide, offering 170% more destination choice than Gatwick and Heathrow. We also offer Geneva and Zurich as alternative hubs.
