Anthropic signs a record lifting of 12.1 billion euros and approaches Openai

Anthropic and Openai are now established as the two dominant actors in generative artificial intelligence. Their influence goes beyond the field of research to anchor in critical infrastructures of the global digital economy, however, their financial journeys and their relationship to investors draw two contrasting models.

Anthropic has just announced an F series of $ 13 billion, or around 12.1 billion euros, which brings its post-money development to $ 183 billion (≈ 170 billion euros). The operation was carried out by Iconiq Capital, with Fidelity Management & Research Company and Lightspeed Venture Partners in Co-Lead. It mobilized a wide spectrum of financial actors, with sovereign funds like GIC or QIA and active management giants such as Blackrock, Blackstone or T. Rowe Price.

The startup founded by Dario and Daniela Amodei was built around a positioning focused on security, interpretability and alignment. In barely two years, its Product Claude, launched in March 2023, recorded very strong growth. Anthropic reached $ 1 billion in annualized income in early 2025, then 5 billion dollars in August 2025. The startup today claims more than 300,000 client companies and a portfolio that combines API, specialized offers for developers, including Claude Code, and subscriptions for individuals.

For its part OPENAI is based on a differently structured model. So after raising $ 40 billion in the spring of 2025, or around 37.1 billion euros, the company is valued at $ 300 billion (≈ 278 billion euros). Secondary transactions in preparation could push this level to $ 500 billion, which would place Openai to the rank of the largest world technological companies. The particularity of the company led by Sam Altman is its exclusive partnership with Microsoft, which provides it with calculation, capital and distribution power via Azure.

Thus the two models reveal a strategic divergence, Anthropic has chosen a diversification of its investors and independence vis -à -vis a single industrial partner, while Openai assumes extensive integration with Microsoft. The first plays the card of plurality and global institutional financing, the second that of industrial and technological anchoring with a single ally.
