Starting your business has never been easier on paper. A few clicks, a status, a SIREN number… and the adventure begins. But behind this apparent ease lies a more nuanced reality. Procedures, financing, taxation, regulations, the rise of digital technology: the entrepreneur of 2025 operates in a more open, but also more demanding, environment. And while creations remain numerous, natural selection has never been stronger.
1/ A dynamic that holds, but which is transformed
The year 2024 marked an inflection point. According to figures published by INSEE in October 2025, just over 1.05 million businesses were created in France last year. A slight drop of 3%, which however comes after several historic years.
This pause does not reflect a running out of steam, but rather a maturity of the market: we are creating as much, but differently.
The profile of creators is also evolving. Micro-enterprises remain in the majority, 61% of registrations, but we are seeing the rise of more structured projects, in SAS or SARL. A desire to build on solid foundations, with a model designed to last.
On the sector side, three universes concentrate most of the dynamics: online commerce, personal services and everything related to the ecological transition, as confirmed by the Banque de France in its 2025 report.
2/ Getting started means first making the right choices
Starting your business isn’t about filling out a form: it’s about laying foundations. And in 2025, these steps remain decisive.
1. Choose the right structure
EURL, SASU, micro-enterprise… The options are numerous, but not interchangeable. A study by the Order of Chartered Accountants (March 2025) reveals that one in three entrepreneurs regret their choice of status after one year. Too many charges, too many limits, poor anticipation.
Professional support is not a luxury: it is security.
2. Find the right financing
Microcredit is progressing, banks are becoming more open, but financing remains the primary obstacle. France Active points out that only 42% of project leaders get the full amount they hoped for.
Public aid, honorary loans, regional subsidies, ARCE, make the difference, but require serious preparation.
3. Rely on a real strategy
Digital tools facilitate market research, but nothing replaces face-to-face confrontation. Incubators observe a clear phenomenon: projects that arrive with a constructed marketing strategy are 2.5 times more likely to cross the three-year mark.
3/ New challenges that change the game
The entrepreneur of 2025 must deal with two major transformations.
The ecological transition
She is no longer an option. 65% of young creators say they want to integrate a positive impact into their model (Bpifrance Le Lab Barometer 2025).
This is not limited to a speech: choice of suppliers, logistics, products, energy… everything is concerned.
Digital, omnipresent
Communication, sales, customer relations, management: everything goes through digital. But this dependence gives rise to other issues: GDPR, cybersecurity, AI tools.
Experts now recommend providing a “minimal digital base” from the creation: secure site, clear data policy, backups, access management. It’s no longer comfort: it’s survival.
4/ Being supported: a lever that too many creators neglect
The studies all say it: a supported entrepreneur has twice as likely to sustain its activity.
Réseau Entreprendre, Initiative France, BGE, local incubators… These structures offer mentoring, networking, feedback. And often, a simple swap avoids costly mistakes.
At the same time, the regions are mobilizing. Île-de-France, Brittany and Occitanie have launched measures in recent months for impact projects, young entrepreneurs or creative women.
5/ The mental health of the manager, a subject finally taken seriously
Entrepreneurship remains an exciting… but challenging adventure.
According to Harmonie Mutuelle Entrepreneurs (April 2025), nearly one in two managers has already experienced an episode of professional burnout.
The Ministry of the Economy has also launched a pilot program “Executive Health” to support creators in stress management, mental workload and work/life balance.
An important development: we finally accept that success is not just about the numbers.
5/ After 2025: more committed, more resilient entrepreneurship
New generations do business differently. They want to earn their living, of course, but not at any cost. A Mazars / Station F study (June 2025) shows that 70% of new entrepreneurs want to build a useful, meaningful business.
The rise of freelancing, independent collectives and “solopreneurs” bears witness to this change: the company is no longer just a legal structure. It’s a life project.
Creating your business in 2025 means:
- a more fluid administrative framework but a more selective environment,
- essential digital and ecological issues,
- the need to surround yourself, learn and adapt,
- and above all, the importance of preserving the human behind the project.
In a fast-moving world, entrepreneurship remains a formidable adventure. But it is an adventure that requires lucidity, method and a good dose of endurance.
Behind every visible success, there is always an idea, a strategy… and a lot of perseverance.
