Flowbird: a historic player anchored in Besançon
Founded in 2001 under the name Parkeon, Flowbird has established itself as a key player in parking management and ticketing solutions. With its head office located in Besançon, Flowbird is a French industrial and technological flagship. Its production and R&D site in the city employs 750 employees, or nearly 40% of its overall workforce of 2,000 employees, and constitutes a strategic pillar of its operations.
For two decades, Flowbird has supported municipalities in optimizing their parking infrastructures. Recognized for its industrial know-how, the group designs and manufactures parking meters, ticket dispensers, as well as advanced ticketing solutions, used in more than 80 countries around the world.
An innovative offering and renewed growth
After a period of low growth, Flowbird has begun to rebound under the leadership of its CEO, Frédéric Beylier, and its majority shareholder, Searchlight Capital Partners. The company was able to capitalize on the growing demand for the extension of parking zones in France.
Thus in 2023, Flowbird delivered 3,300 machines to 105 French cities, a figure which is a sharp increase compared to the 1,830 units in 2022 and the 1,030 in 2021. This dynamic enabled Flowbird to achieve a turnover of 380 million euros in 2024, a figure which did not fail to weigh in the negotiations with EasyPark
EasyPark: a global project to transform mobility
Created the same year (2001) EasyPark Group has established itself as a major player in digital parking solutions. The company, based in Sweden, operates in more than 4,000 cities across 20 countries and has iconic apps such as EasyPark, ParkMobile, RingGo And Park line.
EasyPark’s solutions allow motorists to find parking spaces, manage the charging of electric vehicles, and municipalities to optimize their infrastructure through data management.
The acquisition of Flowbird is part of a consolidation strategy aimed at creating a world leader in urban mobility. By combining Flowbird’s physical infrastructures and EasyPark’s digital solutions, the merged entity will offer a complete offering, adapted to new uses of mobility, such as:
- Automated recognition of electric vehicle plates,
- Tariffs differentiated according to environmental impact,
- Optimization of urban flows through data analysis.
An operation supported by European investors
This merger was made possible thanks to the support of Vitruvian Partners and Verdane, owners of EasyPark, and the involvement of Searchlight Capital Partners, majority shareholder of Flowbird since 2021, which is reinvesting a large part of its capital in EasyPark.
The acquisition was validated by the Competition Authority in September 2024. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
