Until two years ago, the idea of building a complex application without writing a single line of code was more of a marketing promise than an industrial reality. The rise of generative artificial intelligence has profoundly reshuffled the cards and Lovable is today the illustration of this. The Swedish startup, founded in 2023 in Stockholm, has just raised the equivalent of 281 million euros during a round table which values it at approximately 5.6 billion euros. This latest round is led by CapitalG and Menlo Ventures, with participation from Khosla Ventures, Accel, EQT Growth, Creandum, DST Global and several corporate venture funds
Lovable is developing a platform allowing you to create websites and applications through simple conversational interaction with AI. The user describes his need in natural language, the tool is responsible for generating the necessary architecture, code and interfaces. This practice, now described as vibe codingis a continuation of no code and low code.
Economic traction already advanced
Unlike many AI startups still limited to experimental uses, Lovable claims $200 million in annual recurring revenueand counts approximately 320,000 paying customerson a base of several million users, with a free offer supplemented by monthly subscriptions at $25 for individuals and $50 for businesses.
From creative tool to enterprise platform
If growth is mainly based on founders, entrepreneurs Lovable has also reached a milestone with large organizations. Companies like Klarna, Uber or Deutsche Telekom now use the platform to accelerate their product prototyping phases.
This adoption by the product teams largely explains the scale of the funding round. Software development is becoming a subject of cross-functional productivity, in the same way as office automation or collaboration twenty years ago. AI is no longer just a developer’s assistant, it becomes a direct interface between business intent and technical execution.
A roadmap oriented towards integration and transition into production
The funds raised should allow Lovable to consolidate this positioning. Two axes structure the roadmap, starting with integration with third-party tools, notably payment solutions like Stripe or collaborative platforms like Notion, in order to integrate Lovable into existing software environments. The second concerns the strengthening of engineering capacities, in order to enable companies to launch complete products that can be used in production, and no longer just prototypes.
A market in rapid recomposition
Competitively, Lovable is evolving in a rapidly changing market, at the crossroads of no code, low code and programming assistants based on generative AI. Established players like Figma, Webflow, Bubble Or Replit are gradually integrating code generation and conversational prototyping building blocks, seeking to preserve their user base in the face of the rise in power of natural language interfaces.
At the same time, natively developer-oriented tools, such as Cursor Or Cognitionshift the frontier of productivity on the engineering side, without necessarily addressing non-technical profiles.
At another level, AI model providers themselves, OpenAI, Google Or Anthropicconstitute a more diffuse but potentially structuring competition, capable of moving up the application value chain.
