InterCloud, a pioneering company in secure cloud interconnection solutions, entered into receivership in November 2024. Founded in 2010 by Jérôme Dilouya, the company had raised a total of 138 million euros, including a funding round of 100 million in 2022 led by Aleph Capital, with Ventech and Open CNP. Despite this dynamic, InterCloud has not managed to maintain its development in a rapidly expanding market.

Pan-European ambitions curbed

A specialist in Software-Defined Cloud Interconnection (SDCI), InterCloud aimed to become a key player in Europe. The company mainly targeted large BtoB accounts, including SNCF, LVMH, and several CAC 40 companies, demanding clients whose sensitive data required robust and secure solutions.

In 2022, InterCloud displayed an ambitious vision: recruiting around fifty salespeople to accelerate its international growth. “We ensure that our clients’ IT systems stand up,” explained Jérôme Dilouya at the time, emphasizing the specificity of this promising market. Projections from Gartner seemed to validate this strategy, estimating that 30% of enterprises would use SDCI services for their cloud connections by 2025.

A difficult trajectory

Despite its leading position in a niche market, InterCloud was unable to transform its opportunities into lasting success. The competitive intensity and costs of developing an international sales force have likely weighed on its finances. However, its turnover had increased from 12 million euros in 2022 to 13 million in 2023. Intercloud has 56 employees in France and 6 in Spain. The company is now at a decisive turning point, where its survival will depend on the restructuring of its activities and possible external financial support.

A sector still growing

The recovery of InterCloud does not obscure the dynamics of the SDCI market, which remains in strong growth. Secure cloud interconnection solutions represent a strategic challenge for large companies, faced with increased needs for performance, confidentiality and flexibility.
