With a serial B of 1.1 billion dollars, or around 1 billion euros, NSCAL has just signed the largest financing tour ever carried out by a technological company in the United Kingdom and Europe. The operation, carried out by the Norwegian group Aker Asa, marks a strategic stage in the European ambition to build a sovereign infrastructure dedicated to artificial intelligence.
NSCALE presents itself as a hyperscaler “Engineered for AI” with a model based on vertical integration ranging from graphic processors to orchestration software, including network, storage and managed services. The company deploys its own data centers, located in regions at low energy cost, in particular in Norway where hydroelectricity makes it possible to reconcile performance, sustainability and regulatory compliance.
Faced with the global tension on calculation resources, NSCAL intends to secure a pipeline of 100,000 Nvidia units by 2026, thus positioning Europe in the world race for calculation capacity. “We are developing the infrastructure that will support the AI of tomorrow. Artificial intelligence already redefines industrial, economic and national strategies. But this transformation cannot take place without solid foundations: data centers, GPUs and software capable of orchestrating them. NSCALE builds an integrated base, designed for AI, in order to feed the next wave of technological revolutions and allow industries as well as innovators around the world to achieve what still seems impossible today. »»said by press release Josh Payne, founder and managing director.
The company multiplies partnerships to establish itself as a key player in the ecosystem, thus with Microsoft, Openai and Nvidia, it develops Stargate UK, an infrastructure project designed to deploy sovereign capacities on British territory. In parallel, NSCALE and AKER ASA launched Stargate Norway, the first European hyperscal, backed by a multi-minillionaire agreement with Microsoft to equip the Narvik site. Dell and Nokia complete industrial architecture by providing their respective expertise in infrastructure and optical networks.
For Europe, this project crystallizes two dynamics, on the one hand, the need to build a local alternative to American hyperscalters which today concentrate most of the global supply and on the other, the opportunity to capitalize on an energy advantage, thanks to access to renewable energies at low cost in Scandinavia, to build a competitive and sustainable infrastructure. If the challenge remains immense in the face of the investment capacities of Microsoft, Amazon and Google, Nscale traces a credible path for the emergence of a European infrastructure champion IA
Created in the United Kingdom, NSCALE is headed by Josh Payne, CEO and founder. The company brought together $ 1.1 billion in series B, or about 1 billion euros, during a round by Aker Asa, with the participation of Sandton Capital, Blue Owl, Dell, Fidelity, G Squared, Nokia, Nvidia, Point72 and T.Capital.
