On February 6 and 7, 2025, the École Polytechnique will be the scene of an international scientific conference devoted to the impact of artificial intelligence on science and society. Entitled “AI Science and Society”, this conference will bring together researchers, business leaders, policy makers and experts around debates on the mutations caused by AI.

An international initiative

Organized by the Institut Polytechnique de Paris and under the direction of professors Eric Moulines (l’X) and Michael Jordan (UC Berkeley/Inria), the “AI Science and Society” conference aims to explore the societal, scientific and ethical consequences of the rapid evolution of AI and will serve as a prelude to AI Action Summitscheduled for February 10 and 11 at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Exploring collective intelligence through AI

The conference will highlight an essential aspect that is often overlooked: AI as a tool for amplifying collective intelligence. This notion is based on the interconnection of individual intelligences, institutions and communities to address complex challenges in a collaborative manner.

Disciplines such as physics, biology, and mathematics provide robust frameworks for understanding how phenomena emerge from multiple interactions. At the same time, social and economic sciences examine the mechanisms and institutions capable of supporting resilient and equitable systems. These intersecting perspectives will enrich discussions on how AI can be designed to enhance the common good.

A varied program and prestigious speakers

The conference will bring together a wide panel of international experts, including:

  • Michael Jordanprofessor at UC Berkeley and a leading figure in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence systems.
  • Eric Moulinesprofessor at École Polytechnique and specialist in statistical modeling applied to AI.
  • Representatives from major technology companiessuch as Google AI, Microsoft Research and promising start-ups in the sector.
  • Political decision-makersengaged in the creation of regulatory frameworks adapted to AI challenges.

Roundtables and presentations will include interactive sessions allowing participants to engage directly with speakers on key issues, such as equity in access to AI technologies and their impact on employment.
