Beijing banish nvidia and proclaims the autonomy of his chips

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has just indicated the ban on the main technological groups in the country, including Alibaba and Bytedance, to continue their orders for RTX Pro 6000D flea in NVIDIA, the last product still authorized on the Chinese market. Several companies had planned to order tens of thousands of units and had already started test phases with their servers suppliers.

This decision goes further than the previous restrictions targeting the H20 chip, also designed by Nvidia to bypass American sanctions. Beijing now believes that its own semiconductors offer a performance level equivalent to the Nvidia models available in China. Comparisons carried out by regulators with the solutions of Huawei, Cambcon, Alibaba and Baidu concluded that national technological maturity was sufficient to cover market needs.

The prohibition is part of a strategy for reducing technological dependence. The authorities push Chinese giants to favor local solutions and to contribute to the acceleration of national production. Middlers of the sector are preparing to triple the production of AI processors in 2026 in order to ensure strategic autonomy in the face of American restrictions.

For NVIDIA, this banker closes one of the last access channels to a market which once represented more than 20 % of its income in data centers. Jensen Huang, the director general of the company, admitted to being “disappointed” by this evolution while recalling that Nvidia can “be in service of a market only if the country wishes”.
