French Tech 2030: behind the 80 winners, the map of French industrial ambitions

Calculation, components, space communications, energy, health: the third promotion of French Tech 2030 outlines the technological capabilities that the State wishes to see developed in France. The geography of its 80 winners reveals centers of concentration, and their trajectories raise the same question: how to transform scientific advances into industrial production and orders?

Running an artificial intelligence model requires processors, software capable of operating them and a suitable power supply. ZML works on running models on different hardware, Wise Integration develops energy conversion solutions, and Hexana designs a nuclear platform intended to provide heat and electricity. These companies occupy distinct positions in chains whose control conditions the deployment of digital and industrial technologies.

Their presence in the same promotion sheds light on the logic of French Tech 2030. This new 2026 selection brings together 80 companies in eight strategic sectors. The State intends to support technologies on which tomorrow’s infrastructures will depend. “The technologies on which our economy depends must be designed and produced at home,” reaffirmed Emmanuel Macron on this subject.

The selection thus outlines a capacity policy: knowing how to calculate, communicate, produce, protect and care. Its scope will be measured by how these technologies find markets, then can be manufactured and deployed on an economically viable scale.

The components draw another reading of sovereignty

Space brings together 13 winners, ahead of artificial intelligence, semiconductors and health, with 11 companies each. Cybersecurity and energy-decarbonization have ten, robotics eight and quantum six.

The industrial interest of selection appears in these articulations. VSORA develops processors for inference, the stage where AI models are used. NanoXplore designs programmable components for critical systems. In space, HyPrSpace works on launchers, while Cailabs develops laser communication technologies.

Two regions concentrate 70% of head offices

The promotion map shows two major centers: Île-de-France hosts 42 seats and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes 14. These regions alone account for 70% of the winners. Occitanie and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur have six each, Brittany and New Aquitaine four each.

This concentration gives a first reading of the ecosystems mobilized. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Diamfab is developing semiconductor diamonds and Silent Waves is developing cryogenic amplifiers for quantum technology. In Occitania, Infinite Orbits, Look Up and U-Space occupy different positions in space services and infrastructures. In Brittany, Cailabs embodies the development of industrial activity around photonics.

The location of the headquarters does not give the full territorial scope of the productive apparatus. Mecaware’s projects in the recycling of battery metals illustrate establishments linked to deposits and industrial customers, beyond the region where the company is established. To assess the territorial impact, it is necessary to monitor research teams, production sites, suppliers and jobs separately.

From patent to factory, evidence changes in nature

According to data communicated by the French Tech Mission, the winners have filed 842 patents since their creation and devoted 211 million euros to R&D in 2025. Furthermore, 60% come from public research or collaborate with it. This last proportion brings together two different situations: the creation of businesses based on laboratory work and cooperation with a public body.

This edition lists 23 existing factories, including one in the United States, and presents as many industrial implementation projects. Cailabs provides an illustration of this transition. In September, the company indicated that its Factory 27 project, in Rennes, should allow it to produce up to 50 optical ground stations per year by 2028. It is also preparing an industrial establishment in the United States. The goal is to make manufacturing reproducible, then deploy this model in other markets. Industrial control is also played out in the organization, teams and production procedures.

Finance the time before income

The economic figures for the class of 2026 give a measure of this effort: the 211 million euros in R&D expenses represent approximately 121% of the 175 million euros in turnover accumulated in 2025.

Needs evolve with the stages reached. Research funds teams and experiments; industrialization involves equipment, skills and buildings; initial orders may then require inventory and working capital. A software platform, an electronic component and a nuclear reactor impose different timetables and financing structures.

The winners have raised 1.5 billion euros since their creation. Support for French Tech aims in particular to facilitate access to existing systems and investors. Among the 80 companies, 41 are already supported by France 2030 and 12 have benefited from aid or investment from the European Innovation Council.

Buyers will also decide the industrial trajectory

Several relationships illustrate this access to markets, another lever of the program: Inbolt in robotic automation at Stellantis, NPco for industrial simulation with Safran and EDF, or even Mecaware’s collaborations with Renault and Verkor. For the winners, these relationships can provide validation, a commercial reference and income.

The sponsorship of Sopra Steria, which also participates in the selection committee, places access to major accounts and administrations in the system. The challenge will be the transformation of meetings into contracts, then the position occupied by start-ups in the commercial relationship and in the sharing of value.

The Deeptech Counter adds regulatory leverage. Open to deeptech start-ups beyond just the winners, it allows you to report a standard that is blocking a project.

The map of winners today identifies skills and ambitions. In a few years, the results of this promotion will also be seen in the installations put into service and the orders renewed by manufacturers and administrations.
