Three years after an initial raising of 25 million euros, Dougs raised 50 million euros from its historic shareholder Expedition Growth Capital. The Lyon-based company, which boasts more than 50,000 companies supported, intends to strengthen its investments in AI and automation, deploy a physical support network in France and continue its international development.
In July 2023, Dougs opened its capital after eight years of self-financing. The online accounting firm then had 14,000 clients, 250 employees and 15 million euros in recurring annual revenue. Three years later, the company claims more than 50,000 companies supported and announces new financing, twice as large, from the same investor.
As the customer base grows, Dougs must jointly advance its software, its capacity to produce accounts and its management support. The announced program thus combines two investments which respond to different dimensions of the profession: more automation in the processing of files, and a more extensive physical presence to advise entrepreneurs.
The company has built its offering around internally developed software and teams of accounting experts, lawyers and payroll specialists. The platform retrieves bank transactions, reconciles supporting documents and tracks deadlines as well as the main activity indicators. Added to this organization are business creation, legal and social management services.
Expedition extends its investment in the Dougs model
The re-engagement of Expedition Growth Capital marks this operation as a continuation of the first financing in July 2023. At that time, Dougs already intended to strengthen its technology, recruit to support its customers and prepare for its expansion.
Doug’s background fits the positioning of the British fund, which has specialized in European technology companies that have developed their product and customer base before resorting to external capital. Expedition notably highlights support in commercial development, strategic recruitment and the organization of operations.
For Dougs, this new stage requires articulating several professions, thus software development requires continuous investments, and the accounting service requires an organization capable of absorbing new files, meeting deadlines and answering questions from managers.
Automate more to support more businesses
According to information provided to us by the company, Dougs reached €50 million in annual recurring revenue, or ARR, in 2025 and shows annual growth of 50%. The company is now targeting 100 million euros in ARR.
Dougs’ model is based on subscriptions, with accounting offers for companies starting at 79 euros excluding tax per month. If for the client, this pricing makes the budget more understandable, for Dougs, it places the cost of processing each file at the center of the model. The time spent collecting a part, verifying an operation or resolving an anomaly directly influences the economics of the service.
Announced investments in research and development, AI and automation must support this organization. The challenge consists of processing more operations while reserving the intervention of professionals for controls, specific situations and decisions that require assessment.
Funding priorities
Three projects to change scale
Automate production. Strengthen R&D and AI to process more operations and focus professional intervention on controls, exceptions and advice.
Develop proximity. Deploy a physical and local support network in France, in addition to the platform and remote exchanges.
Extend the model. Continue international development, with product adaptations and local skills necessary for accounting services.
The online firm invests in proximity
The announced deployment of a physical and local support network in France constitutes the other financing project. After developing the relationship at a distance, Dougs intends to add a local presence to his system.
The creation of a company, a first hire or a change in the manager’s remuneration may call for a more in-depth discussion. A local establishment can facilitate this relationship, broaden access to certain entrepreneurs and support the distribution of services.
This presence will have to be coordinated with accounting production and common tools, because each location adds costs and coordination needs, the challenge will be to develop local support while retaining the gains made possible by a shared technological infrastructure.
A French competition that has become European
This acceleration comes in a market transformed by five years of financing and mergers. Pennylane raised 175 million euros in January 2026, after funding of 75 million euros in April 2025. Indy raised 40 million euros in November 2023 to develop an expanded offering around independent management.
A market where models differ. Pennylane equips companies and their firms with accounting management and production tools, indy offers a platform supplemented by an accounting expertise provided by partners, while Dougs directly integrates the software and the service.
On a European scale, software groups are strengthening their positions through acquisitions and partnerships. Cegid acquired sevdesk in February 2025 to expand its offering to small businesses in the German-speaking region. In March 2026, Visma and In Extenso announced a partnership providing for Visma to acquire a minority stake in fulll, the accounting and payroll software publisher from In Extenso. These movements bring together technologies, distribution networks and knowledge of national markets.
American actors are also participating in this development. Intuit launched Intuit Accountant Suite in the UK in February 2026, after discontinuing the French version of QuickBooks at the end of 2023. In the US, Basis is developing agents intended to prepare accounting work for review by professionals.
Electronic invoicing reform speeds up equipment decisions. Since September 1, 2026, companies subject to VAT established in France must be able to receive electronic invoices included in the system. The emission obligation will extend to SMEs and microenterprises on September 1, 2027. For service providers, this calendar opens a period during which companies reexamine their management tools.
International requires local organization
Dougs also plans to dedicate part of the funding to its international development. This ambition already appeared in the projects presented in 2023, when the company mentioned Germany and England.
The European development of an accounting service requires combining reusable technology with national skills. Taxation, declarations and professional practices require adaptation of the product and an organization capable of supporting customers in each country. The operations carried out by software groups currently demonstrate the importance of these local positions.
Dougs’ next change of scale will therefore depend on its ability to reproduce this association between automation and service, while developing its presence in France. The announced growth must find its expression in accounting production that meets deadlines, and in accessible advice when the entrepreneur’s decisions become complicated.
Founded in Lyon in 2015 by Patrick Maurice, co-founder and CEO, Véronique Maurice, Sarah Jaouani and Florent Galland, Dougs announces a fundraising of 50 million euros from Expedition Growth Capital. This operation follows a Series A of 25 million euros carried out in July 2023 with the same investor. The funds must support investments in R&D, in AI and automation, the deployment of a physical support network in France and international development.
