Compliance, the next battleground for distributed work: WORKFLEX raises 37 million euros

Founded in 2022 in Amsterdam by Pieter Manden and Patrick Koch, WorkFlex announces that it has raised 37 million euros from Spectrum Equity. An operation which highlights a still unstructured angle of distributed work, namely the management of compliance linked to international mobility.

In a few years, practices have changed, with travel increasing. An employee now has several short stays in a row, working from different countries, without these trips always being anticipated or qualified.

The regulatory framework has not followed. Taxation, social security, labor law and immigration continue to apply according to territorial logics. Each trip can thus trigger specific obligations, often invisible at the time they arise.

According to Eurostat, more than 120 million business trips were recorded in Europe in 2024. This volume reflects less an intensification of trade than a multiplication of situations likely to produce legal effects.

What yesterday involved exceptional cases (expatriations, secondments) is now part of everyday business life. Compliance can no longer be handled ad hoc. This is where WorkFlex is positioned. The platform aims to structure and automate the management of obligations linked to international travel (A1 certificates, posting notifications, visas, tax exposure) by integrating them directly into operations.

The historical players in global mobility are today organized around long-term mobility. New specialized platforms are emerging to address these fragmented uses. At the same time, players like Deel or Remote, already present in international work management, could extend their scope to these issues.
