LEGORA, NABLA, ABRIDGE: the driving forces behind the hypergrowth of a new generation of startups

Legora, Pigment, Nabla, Abridge: a new generation of startups is progressing at unprecedented speed, attracting customers and investors. Their development is based on new uses, significant financial resources and, for many client companies, the fear of missing out on the AI revolution. To understand this acceleration, we need to look at what they sell, how they deploy and what remains of their income once the service is provided.

Legora has just announced a fundraising of around 490 million euros, for a valuation of 7.83 billion euros. The startup claims to have added a new tranche of around €89 million to its annualized recurring revenue in less than six months, taking this indicator beyond €178 million.

A specific need facilitates the first purchase

Legora helps lawyers research, analyze and write. Nabla and Abridge prepare medical reports based on the consultations. Pigment allows financial departments to build their budgets and forecasts, with AI functions that enrich already established software.

The performances are convincing, a randomized trial published in NEJM AI in November 2025, conducted with 238 doctors divided between two tools and a control group, observed with Nabla a 9.5% reduction in writing time per note compared to the control group.

Four trajectories, different indicators

  • Legora: more than 178 million euros in annualized recurring revenues announced in October 2026.
  • Pigment: annualized recurring revenue doubled over one year, according to its October 2026 announcement.
  • Nabla: a turnover multiplied by five in six months, according to data published when it was raised in June 2025.
  • Abridge: more than 300 health systems deployed, according to the company in June 2026.

These reported figures relate to different periods and metrics: revenue, growth rate and deployments are not directly comparable. Sources: announcements from Pigment, Nabla and Abridge.

Growth continues among customers already won

Signing new clients is only part of the equation. A deployment can start in one team, then extend to other services, the contract can grow with the number of users and the functions purchased.

As of April 2024, Pigment reported that more than 90% of its customers were using the platform across multiple departments, including finance, sales and human resources.

In law, Legora announced in September 2025 its deployment in the 30 offices of Linklaters, victim of its success, two months later, the firm announced a team of 20 lawyers specializing in AI, responsible for supporting practices.

Integration with existing software facilitates this progression. Nabla, which announced more than 190 healthcare organization customers in July 2026, notably says it integrates with Epic and Oracle Cerner medical records. The tool fits into the work of teams, a central issue in its development in health establishments.

Larger products for larger contracts

Publishers are also looking to cover more work. At Nabla, writing extends to dictation and medical coding, which involves translating file information into codes used in particular for billing. Legora relies on agents capable of carrying out several actions, from research to preparing a document.

Pigment provides a more precise usage indicator than just the number of customers: in October 2026, the company claims that 84% of its accounts use AI each week. Its Modeler Agent builds planning models from everyday language instructions. The execution of complete planning cycles remains an announced stage of its roadmap.

Its fundraising of 223 million euros should support these developments and its international expansion. For all of these editors, covering more tasks opens up the possibility of larger contracts. The new functions still need to provide sufficient value to be purchased.

The indicators behind hypergrowth

Recurring adoption: the proportion of users or accounts who regularly use the product. The two perimeters must be distinguished.

Net Revenue Retention (NRR): the evolution of revenues from the same customers, extensions, reductions and departures included. An NRR of 120% means an increase of 20%, not counting new customers.

The cost per validated task: the cost necessary to provide a usable result, including computer calculation and human interventions.

These metrics complement ARR, annualized recurring revenue. The data cited here does not allow the four companies to be compared on all of these criteria.

Capital accelerates the race and concentrates the means

The fundraising funds recruitment, sales teams and establishment abroad. At Legora, the United States has become the largest market in revenue, after the opening of a first office in spring 2025. The company is also expanding its clientele: legal departments represented more than 40% of its new clients in the third quarter of 2026.

These prospects attract investors capable of supporting major rounds. Atreides Management is leading the new financing of Legora, in which Fidelity and Capital Group are participating. At Pigment, the tour is led by the Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT. Suffice it to say that the cards are being reshuffled among investors

The financing of funds is also concentrated: vehicles of at least 445 million euros captured 78.1% of the capital collected over this period, while representing only 6% of funds closed. New managers and mid-sized funds must evolve in an environment that questions them on how to remain present in the most sought-after companies when their financing needs change scale so quickly?

Transforming acceleration into sustainable advance

The current race is also against time. New entrants benefit from a favorable window: companies explore the uses of AI, open budgets and choose their suppliers, while traditional publishers adapt their products. For startups, the challenge is to take a position during this phase of market reorganization.

This window is already contested. In law, Thomson Reuters launched a new generation of CoCounsel Legal in August 2026, which brings together research, analysis and writing. Established players can rely on their content, their commercial relationships and their presence in organizations to offer these new functions to already equipped customers.

In France, Septeo Legal illustrates this shift from law firm management to legal production. After the acquisition of Lexbase announced in September 2026, the group wants to bring together its business software, legal content and research, analysis and writing functions using AI. For a firm that is already a client, the decision may then concern the activation of additional functions in its existing environment, rather than the adoption of a new tool.

In this context, fundraising makes it possible to finance several fronts at the same time: recruiting, developing products, opening markets and supporting deployments. The business objective is to become an established supplier before competing offers close in. A tool integrated into the client’s software, used by several teams and part of their habits may be more difficult to replace.

For Legora, Pigment, Nabla and Abridge, the challenge therefore consists of transforming the current favorable conditions into a lasting advance. Customer loyalty and cost control will tell what this advance is worth. The capital raised must, until then, allow them to gain enough ground to resist the catching up of historical players.
