Deerhound, Guernsey

A £100,000 investment in a popular Guernsey pub and eaterie has led to new standards of customer experience and working areas.

Liberation Group has installed a new kitchen and given the customer areas a facelift to bring the Deerhound up to the latest modern standards.

The kitchen has been completely redesigned to improve workflow and make food preparation and serving more efficient. Air intakes and extractors have also been replaced to improve the working environment for the chefs and their team.

In the bar and eaterie new flooring and finishes have been installed but the most exciting addition is a collection of works by local photographer Chris George who has captured iconic Guernsey views and mounted them on canvas.

Liberation Group Operations Director Kenrick Brooks said: ‘The Deerhound is one of our most popular venues and is a very important part of our Guernsey business. The team have done an amazing job in just eleven days, which meant that we were not closed for too long. The refurbishment is part of a rolling programme of improvements to our property portfolio in the Channel Islands, which has seen the acquisition of Laska and the Red Onion and complete make-overs at the White Hart and The Houmet. We will continue to invest in our business in Guernsey as we constantly strive to develop the business and give customers the very best in atmosphere and service.'

Liberation Group has spent in excess of £4 million on acquisitions and improvements to its pubs bars and eateries in the last three years, bucking a mainland trend that has seen upwards of 25 pubs a week closing with the loss of more than 13,000 jobs in the UK. The company is now one of the largest employers in the Channel Islands.

Commenting on his work being displayed at the Deerhound, photographic artist Chris George said: ‘It's always exciting to be asked to get involved in local projects and the pictures selected especially for the Deerhound are some of the very best Guernsey landmarks and views. I wanted to achieve something very special for the Deerhound and I am delighted with the results, so much so that I have personally signed all the canvasses.'

The Deerhound Inn is situated at Le Bourg in the Forest.
