Students who are planning to start university in September 2012 are invited to apply for the Touchstone Bursary, which includes £4,500 towards their university education, as well as paid work experience. Touchstone, the Jersey based business software and consultancy services company, is looking to nurture young locals interested in a career in software development or business consultancy. Greg Davis who was Touchstone’s last bursary winner, and is now a full-time Touchstone business consultant, said: ‘The job market in Jersey is very competitive at the moment, but this bursary enabled me to gain varied and very valuable experience within the work place. During the bursary scheme, I was involved with client projects and meetings from day one, as well as putting the skills learnt during my degree into practise. It was a fantastic experience, and helped me to secure a full time job with Touchstone too.’ The Touchstone Bursary provides £500 per term over the three years of their degree to the winning student, and also allows the student to join the company for “hands-on”, paid work experience during their university holidays. Peter Le Brocq, Managing Director of Touchstone, said: ‘If Jersey is to fulfil its ambitions to have a diversified economy and become a centre of digital and technical excellence, it is important to give local students as much support as possible to encourage them to stay in the Island. The business and technical solutions that Touchstone has developed are being used all over the world from the Asia Pacific region through Europe to the Caribbean basin. Having a “homegrown” workforce interested in, aware of, and importantly, skilled in the diversity of career opportunities available locally is vital to the continued success of businesses such as ours. While the Touchstone Bursary is open to everyone, it is particularly suited to students planning to study Computer Science, IT or Business Studies. Candidates should apply for the year in which they are planning to commence university, and the deadline for applications is 30th June 2012.
