Edward BucklandEdward Buckland TEP, Global Head of Fiduciary at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, has been elected Deputy Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the worldwide professional association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning.

Mr Buckland, who was first elected to the Board in 2012, has also served as the Chair of STEP's Jersey branch and on the Society's Council over the past several years.

On his election he said: ‘The past few years of service to the Society have been a distinct privilege and a highlight in my professional life. My role with Barclays has consistently shown me that education is a hallmark of a skilled practitioner, so to be in a position where I can help guide the delivery of world class professional development to a large number of fellow members is highly rewarding.

‘In my role as Deputy Chair I am anxious to address actively the challenges facing STEP including determining how to best engage Generation Y members and find effective ways to provide them with professional development, balancing the establishment of new branches and growing existing branches around the world, and keeping up with regulatory changes.'

STEP Chief Executive David Harvey added: ‘STEP has benefited considerably with Edward on the Board and I know his tenure as Deputy Chair will continue to yield great results for the Society going forward.'

Mr Buckland is based in St Helier and has been a qualified solicitor for almost 24 years. He has been a member of STEP since 1995. STEP's Board of Directors, which has eight members, was created in 2010 to manage the interests and affairs of the Society. It has ultimate responsibility for all activities, deciding the overall values and mission of the body.
