Channel Island businesses can now take to the sky for images and video footage thanks to a brand new aerial imaging business.

Earth Sea Sky Images (ESSI) is the first video and still photography business to operate a remote aerial vehicle in the Channel Islands and ESSI’s Sam Field is just one of 60 people to have completed the training to use the state of the art equipment in the UK.

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is used to capture video and still photography through professional still cameras and full HD video cameras at a fraction of the cost of the chartering a helicopter or aircraft.

“Using this new equipment can offer businesses and individuals in the Channel Islands an innovative way to capture important images,” said ESSI owner Sam Field.

The UAV is electrically powered and GPS enabled with eight engines and weighs over 13 pounds. It is controlled by a pilot on the ground, and a separate camera operator who can also control the camera separately giving it independent tilt, roll and pan capabilities. The cameras have a live video feed from the air, meaning the pilot and camera operator "see what the UAV sees".

“The UAV is really adaptable; it can be used to capture creative promotional footage but it can also get to places that people cannot easily get to, such as above houses, buildings, roof tops for inspections and to get a 360 degree still images of a large building and turn them into a 3D computer model,” said Mr Field.

“We can operate almost anywhere and can fly up to 400 feet above ground level and 500 metres away from its take off point. This makes it the perfect tool to capture footage and images of social and sporting events, footage for marketing promotions, estate agents and property developers, infrastructure management, environment and land surveys.”

Sam Field is fully certified by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate the UAV.

“ESSI follow strict guidelines of how the UAV operates in proximity to people and property and we take privacy and safety very seriously. Not just anyone can operate a UAV and our vehicles and operational practises are fully regulated and certified by the CAA,” said Mr Field.

More information about ESSI and footage of the UAV in operation is available on the company website http://www.essimages.com/
