Over £8,000 has been donated to Les Bourgs Hospice by Carey Olsen staff in the past 18 months.
The hospice, which is currently undergoing substantial redevelopment, was chosen by employees as one of the law firm's charities to support during 2010.
“Carey Olsen was really pleased to support Les Bourgs Hospice not only because of the great work it does on the island but for the opportunity to help raise funds for the major re-development taking place on the hospice building, which will benefit so many islanders,” said Richard Field, chairman of the charities committee.
Employees helped at a number of in-house fund-raising events and also assisted with marshalling at the RG Falla quarter marathon and Rock to Rocque ride, volunteering at the Les Bourgs flag days and clay pigeon shooting day.
The donation has also sponsored the Swoffers 3 Peaks Challenge and three Bourgometer redevelopment appeal displays to help raise awareness of the work taking place on the hospice building.
A number of smaller fund-raising events were held by members of the committee to help raise awareness of Les Bourgs Hospice amongst Carey Olsen employees. These included a smoothie-making day, meat draws, a Wii games night and a ladies swap party.
Les Bourgs Nursing Director, Jo Boyd, said: “The level of commitment shown by Carey Olsen's charities committee was impressive. After initial meetings with Les Bourgs, members of the charities committee joined the Friends of Les Bourgs committee and attended the regular meetings to help with fundraising and support and the charity has very much appreciated this involvement.
“The hospice relies solely on donations, so it's great that the employees at Carey Olsen have donated both money, through a number of creative fund-raising employee events, and their time, by helping at a number of Les Bourgs Hospice's events,” she said.
The hospice building is currently undergoing a redevelopment and expansion to create a purpose-built hospice, which will be large enough to meet the island's needs, installed with the latest medical equipment and facilities. The fund raising target for the new development is four million which is on top of the thousands of pounds required to keep the hospice going every year.
