Businesslife.co launches Channel Islands Funds Forum 2015

Posted: 15/04/2015

As part of its ongoing senior-level conference programme for 2015, businesslife.co has announced its major funds forum event for the year. And delegates have until the end of the month to take advantage of an earlybird discount.

The ‘Channel Islands Funds Forum 2015: Stepping into the light’ will take place from 9am-3pm on Thursday 1 October at the Pomme d’Or Hotel in St Helier. The event will bring together senior speakers and delegates from Jersey, Guernsey, the City and Europe to hear about, and discuss, issues, opportunities and challenges in the funds industry right now and in the immediate future.

The agenda for the day includes a variety of panel discussions, presentations and breakout sessions on the following subjects:
• Funds – the next 12 months. What lies in store for the islands in the coming year?
• Infrastructure and natural resources. What is the Channel Islands’ track record in these sectors and is enough being done to target them?
• Will the fund manager/administrator become obsolete? Will technology mean the end of the traditional model?
• The scramble for African private equity deals. Is this an area in which Guernsey and Jersey could make their mark?
• Fund administration. A review of what fund administrators are facing up to on a day-to-day basis.
• The legal landscape.
A discussion of current legal issues and the challenges faced by law firms operating in the funds space.
• The end of the ‘blind pool’. Are investors demanding more control of what is done with their money?
• Fund liquidation and restructuring. Who should act, conflicts of interest and how to handle contentious valuation issues.
• Guernsey v Jersey – is there really much difference? An examination of the differences between the islands’ funds offerings, and the benefits to be had from working together.

As Nick Kirby, Editor-in-Chief of businesslife.co explains: “The original intention was to have separate events in Guernsey and Jersey, but in putting together this conference we realised that so many of the subjects were relevant to both islands and that the crossover was glaringly obvious – so the decision was taken to hold one major event.

"By bringing together funds professionals from both islands, and from the UK and Europe, we believe that this will be an informative, though-provoking and, potentially, fiery event. Our two funds events last year attracted around 200 speakers and delegates in total. Imagine getting that number of people in a room talking about these subjects!”

To celebrate the launch of this major funds event, businesslife.co is offering a discounted rate of £250 (full rate £395) to the first 25 delegates who email their interest before 30 April to Carl Methven at events@businesslife.co.
