Steven Gray (JSCCA Dinner 2011) Rebecca Savage (JSCCA Dinner 2011) Ellie Stoddart (JSCCA Dinner 2011) Over 400 accountants in Jersey participated in two days of intense professional study recently to explore some of the key issues impacting Jersey, at the flagship event organised by the Jersey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants' (JSCCA).

At the JSCCA's Annual CPD Conference, which took place in October at the Hotel de France, a number of visiting and local speakers discussed a range of issues affecting Jersey's finance industry and its accountancy profession, including changes in the international approach to taxation, enhancements to the local legal framework, Jersey's attempts to combat fraud and the shifting nature of international regulation such as the EU AIFM Directive.

The two day event was brought to a close by the JSCCA's Annual Dinner, attended by local politicians, industry practitioners and representatives of a number of accountancy bodies. At the dinner, President of the JSCCA Andy Isham addressed attendees, highlighting the major contribution the accountancy profession had made in supporting the finance industry through another challenging year.

Some outstanding exam successes of local students were also recognised at the dinner, with prizes being awarded to the three students in Jersey who achieved the highest marks for the final papers of their accountancy exams completed in December 2010 - PwC's Rebecca Savage (pictured, middle), who completed the ICAEW paper, Sanne Group's Steven Gray (pictured, top), who undertook the ACCA exam, and State Street's Ellie Stoddart (pictured, bottom), who completed the ICAS paper.

The dinner also celebrated the creation of the JSCCA's bursary scheme this year, designed to give targeted support to local students wanting to attend a UK university and pursue a degree in a business related subject.

Andy Isham, President of the JSCCA, commented:

"The JSCCA's conference this year was another hugely successful event, touching on a range of highly pertinent issues to Jersey and yet again demonstrating the significant input accountants in Jersey have in the local finance industry and wider business community.

“I am delighted that the conference and the dinner were so well attended. It was particularly encouraging to be able to reflect on the bright future of the accountancy profession in Jersey, by recognising our high flying accountancy students and the successful launch of the JSCCA bursary.”

Established in 1974, the JSCCA promotes and supports the accountancy profession in Jersey and has over 750 members from across different accountancy bodies. For more information about the JSCCA, please visit www.jscca.org.
